BFF8: Eighth Bayesian, Fiducial & Frequentist Conference, May 3-5, 2023
The Eighth Bayesian, Fiducial and Frequentist conference (BFF8) will be held on May 3-5, 2023, at the University of Cincinnati, OH, USA. The focus of this year’s conference is on the foundations, philosophies, methodologies, applications, and ethical principles for data analytics in science and business. This year, we are fortunate to bring together bring together a diverse group of experts and thought leaders from different backgrounds and perspectives, all in one place. Check out the full list of confirmed speakers on the website https://cvent.me/OYAMBz.
The BFF8 conference aims to create a platform for statisticians, philosophers, probabilists, business and healthcare domain experts, and industry leaders to collaborate, discuss and explore the challenges of statistical inference in today's data-centric world. With a focus on the Bayesian, Fiducial, and Frequentist approaches towards statistical inference and its applications, we aim to provide a firm foundation to overcome the complexity arising from the philosophical issues surrounding BFF foundations.
This year's conference will cover the latest developments in philosophy, computation, methodology, data infrastructure, ethical principles and applications related to reconciling interpretational perspectives and refining our understanding of uncertainties and evidential support. We will also examine the reasoning behind different statistical inference procedures, ensuring that they meet the norms of theory choice, such as simplicity, naturalness, robustness, and truth-conduciveness.
Join us for BFF8 to gain a deeper understanding of the competing paths in statistics to discuss and collaborate on the best approaches towards inference. For more details and updates, please visit our website https://cvent.me/OYAMBz. We can't wait to see you in Cincinnati!
BFF7 Toronto (Hybrid): Seventh Bayesian, Fiducial & Frequentist Conference, May 2-4, 2022
The Bayesian, Fiducial, and Frequentist (BFF) community began in 2014 as a means to facilitate scientific exchange among statisticians and scholars in related fields that develop new methodologies with in mind the foundational principles of statistical inference. The community encourages and promotes research activities to bridge foundations for statistical inferences, to facilitate objective and replicable scientific learning, and to develop analytic and computing methodologies for data analysis.
Over the last eight years, BFF meetings have served as a venue for researchers and practitioners to share ideas, update research progress, highlight important open problems in both theory and implementation, and most importantly discuss future directions of such research.
Previous iterations of the BFF have taken place at Duke University (BFF6), University of Michigan (BFF5), Harvard University (BFF4), Rutgers University (BFF3), and East China Normal University (BFF1 & BFF2).
This edition of the conference will focus is on methodological, computational and ethical principles of data science and is dedicated to the memory of our late colleague, Donald A. S. Fraser.

BFF 6.5 — Virtual Workshop on Bayesian, Fiducial, and Frequentist Statistical Inference, Feb 5, 2021
The Bayesian, Fiducial, and Frequentist (BFF) group is working at the forefront of key foundational developments in statistics, data science, and related fields. In this next installment of the group’s series of workshops, the first in a virtual format, the focus will be on (a) identifying important open problems in the various research threads and (b) recent advances by the next generation of BFFs. The workshop will feature presentations from both leading experts and junior researchers, along with open discussions.
The Workshop will take place virtually on Friday, February 5th, 2021. Visit the Workshop website on Researchers. One:
[Postponed] BFF7: October 26 – 28, 2020, Toronto, Canada
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, BFF 7 has been postponed. Details will be posted here once they become available.
The Seventh Bayesian, Fiducial and Frequentist conference (BFF7) will be held on October 26 – 28, 2020, at the University of Toronto, Canada. The focus of this year’s conference is on the Methodological, Computational, and Ethical Principles for Data Science.
The BFF7 conference aims to bring together experts who are committed to the development of bridges between the three major approaches towards statistical inference, namely Bayesian, Fiducial and Frequentist, with the aim of developing a firm foundation for the challenges of statistical inference in our data centric world. The conference is dedicated to the 95th birthday of Professor Donald A. S. Fraser. Don is Professor Emeritus in the Department of Statistical Sciences at the University of Toronto, widely recognized as a pioneer of Foundational Statistics.
Registration for BFF7 is now open! Please visit the conference website and follow links therein to register, purchase banquet tickets, and submit funding as well as poster session applications. We look forward to seeing you in Toronto!
